McAdam's Guide to
Collecting Classic Postage Stamps
Information and recommendations for stamp collectors and philatelists
As with many collecting endeavors, there are particular eras, or periods, defined by stamp collectors. These are often used to define the scope of one's stamp collection or area of interest. For example, this website primarily deals with postage stamps and related philatelic items issued prior to 1941. Collectors of British or British Empire stamps have traditionally used the reigns of royal monarchs as time periods, such as the Victorian period, or some other reign.
The Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue of Stamps & Covers 1840-1940 seems to have a self-explanatory title, but on the Title Page includes, parenthetically, "British Commonwealth to 1952," which would take British Commonwealth stamps to the end of the reign of George VI. (See The Reigns of British Monarchs.)
