James Joyce

Set of two stamps

June 16th 1904 was the day when Leopold Bloom left his house in the morning and through a series of misadventures in and around Dublin returned, late in the evening to the bosom of his wife Molly Bloom. A century later we celebrate Leopold's momentous day with a special commemorative issue.

The elongated stamps denominated at 48c and 65c and designed by Q Design, are a fitting tribute to a literary classic and its extraordinary cast of characters. The 48c stamp features an illustration of James Joyce by Italian artist Tullio Perricoli.

The 65c stamp features an image of James Joyce taken from a photograph by Constantine Curran in 1904. Copyright Elizabeth Solterer. Reproduced by kind permission of University College Dublin Library. The stamp also features a ghosted image of the first edition of Ulysses. Reproduced by kind permission of the National Library of Ireland.
