Collecting Classic Postage Stamps
Information and recommendations for stamp collectors and philatelists
We read with interest of the the auction by the Spinks firm in London of a used 1847 2-penny blue Mauritius postage stamp from the collection of the late Sir Cyril Humphrey Cripps (1915-2000), which sold for approximately $1.69 million US, including the buyer's premium and value-added tax. It is the highest price ever paid for a single stamp from Britain or her colonies.
