Having done substantial work on our listing of
classical music labels (an effort which, by its very nature, will always
remain a work in progress), it occurred to us that a similar listing of popular
music labels might also be of interest to our readers. Two difficulties in
such an undertaking immediately undertaking. First, one must form an
acceptable definition of "popular music." Second, one must not allow
oneself to be overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the task.
We've taken a fluid approach to the definition aspect, thinking we can always sub-divide classifications as necessary in the future. As for being overwhelmed - well, one must do what one can. We'll start small, and add labels as they occur to us, perhaps concentrating at first on those slightly more unfamiliar to our readers.
