McAdam's Guide to
Collecting Classic Postage Stamps
Information and recommendations for stamp collectors and philatelists
The collecting of thematic postage stamps, or topicals, as they are more often referred to in the United States, can provide a great deal of enjoyment. While thematic collectors often tend toward collecting more modern issues, a thematic collection limited to postage stamps issued between 1840 and 1940 is not only a possibility but represents an interesting challenge. As just one example, the 1896 Greek stamp shown above would fit nicely into a collection devoted to The Olympics, the broader category of Sports, or even Horses on Stamps.
