The Top 10 Classical CD List

Not much new this week, except that the soundtrack album for Casanova ends up replacing Hidegard von Bingen's Canticles of Ecstacy.  The King Kong soundtrack didn't stick around too long; this week, it's replaced by Andrea Bocelli's 1997 CD Romanza.  (Well, it is getting to be close to Valentine's Day....)  Bryn Terfel got knocked out of the number 10 spot by Cecilia Bartoli.

1   Memoirs of a Geisha - great soundtrack CD, featuring compositions by John Williams and performances by Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman.  Sony.
2   The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe original soundtrack features a limited-edition 3-D cover, the score by acclaimed composer Harry Gregson-Williams, plus songs by Alanis Morissette, Imogen Heap, Tim Finn, and Lisbeth Scott.

3   An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.

4   2 CD Deluxe Collector's Edition, contains all of the music from the single disc plus other original score material featured in the film.
5   Pride & Prejudice soundtrack, featuring works by Dario Marianelli.
6   The Most Relaxing Classical Album in the World...Ever!  A 2-CD set with a hyperbolic title, and some very nice music.
7   Casanova soundtrack.
8   It probably isn't all that surprising to see the Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire soundtrack CD here.
9   Andrea Bocelli - Romanza.
10   Cecilia Bartoli - Opera Proibita.
Interesting CD of the Week   It's that old story - how do you know you don't like Britten, if you've never listened to Britten?  Well, here's your chance....
