Stamp Set of five stamps
The second issue in the Wild Flower series, the Burren group, is among the most
interesting of Ireland's flora. The Burren is home to a variety of plants that
continues to intrigue botanists and naturalists. The mysterious combination of
Alpine and Mediterranean species like the Mountain Avens, Irish Orchid and
Spring Gentian combine with the dazzling magenta of the Bloody Crane's-bill and
chameleon-like Fly Orchid in a glorious tapestry of wild flowers unique to the
Burren's legendary limestone wilderness.
The stamps are denominated at 1c (Bloody crane's-bill), 2c (Irish orchid) 7c
(Fly orchid), 10c (Mountain avens) and €10 (Spring gentian). The beautiful
illustrations showing Irish Wild Flowers in their native habitat for this
definitive series of postage stamps were painted by renowned botanical artist
Susan Sex.
